Sofia's Summer

Sofia is 3 and a half months old and is a big girl.  On 6/9/14, Sofia weighed 15 lbs 3 ounces which was exactly one month after her two month appointment where she weighed 12 lbs 10 ounces. She still eats like a champ and I am so grateful. The only time she cries is when she is hungry and thats an easy fix, however when she can't see me she does like to fake cry. Sweet girl just wants her mama!
She is so social and loves to talk and make friends. Lately shes been talking to strangers in the check out line at WalMart and everyone just loves her. She loooves seeing herself in the mirror and her reactions are so funny. I have been wanting to record her seeing herself and should probably do that sooner than later. Sofia lately has been waking up around anywhere from 3am-5am to nurse which is so abnormal for her. Before she would sleep from 10:30-6am no problem so this extra feeding has been throwing off my groove. I don't know how some moms handle their baby not sleeping longer than 4 hours. Sofia also has been putting her fists in her mouth like crazy. She loves loves loves her pacifier, but when that pops out and is irretrievable, her fist and/or a mouth full of blanket works fine. Having her wear dresses or anything with a skirt of ruffle has been diffifult because she always just pulls it up and puts it in her mouth leaving her soaked.  She also has been so difficult to put her fists through sleeves because while her fist is in the middle of her sleeve she does everything within her power to put her fist in her mouth. I try really hard to be quick! She also has been so alert. Wide eyed and bushy tailed. I love it.

Having a little babe and running errands and traveling is a bit intimidating. However, I finally feel as though I have the car seat/diaper bag/nursing on the go thing down. Before I would always carry a bottle, but nowadays there is no need. Just get that girl her food every four hours...or else...

Currently Greg is doing a summer residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Altoona, PA and because he has the weekends off with no homework or anything we have been taking advantage of the free time. So far we have visited Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Gettysburg. Sofia has been such a trooper and just hangs out in her stroller taking naps and being such a happy babe. I love getting to see the sites and cities that we have seen in countless movies, pretty fun! BUT I also love seeing all the history! In Philadelphia we got to see some really old buildings like Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the oldest indoor farmers market with some amazing food. In Washington state where I am from you don't come across things that are very old all that often.  So living here on the east coast and getting to see things that were around in the 1700's.. pretty amazing!! I think one of my favorite things I saw (second to the Lincoln Memorial, of course!!) was in the National history smithsonian they have a display of formal dresses that the First Ladies have worn and I loved seeing those dresses. Greg didn't even look at that exhibit.  He missed out! Anyway, here are some pictures of us over the last month.

Two month old Sofia

Today Sofia turns two months old. 8 weeks and 5 days to be exact, however, it has come to my attention that Sofia is getting to the age where its time I start telling her age in months, not weeks. I can't be that mom telling people my baby is 20 weeks old. And yes it is sad. Just one more thing I can't get back. We are loving her new stages of development but can you blame me for wanting my sweet baby to stay small forever?

The picture of the left is 1 month old, the picture on the right is 2 months old.  She looks pretty much the same (thank goodness) but if you look closely you can tell she is starting to thicken up and is getting some fat on those legs and arms.

In the last two weeks Sofia has become super playful and gives me many smiles a day. I have had some long conversations with her where we can carry on for about 8 or 9 exchanges. I love talking to her and hearing her sweet voice with each coo. She talks our ears off and we don't mind. I wish I knew what she was saying.  She also is getting pretty good at playing with her little floor mat/piano.  She kicks her feet like crazy and keeps herself entertained quite well which is fun and a relief for me to see. I feel like I have been trying to keep a balance between holding Sofia and cuddling her but also giving her time to sit alone and have quiet time. I don't want her to think she needs to be held all the time.

She really is such a good baby though. I can't hardly think of anything she doesn't like- besides waiting for her food and when she is woken up early from her naps she is a little cranky, but most all babies are.  I feel like she came out of the womb being a pretty good sleeper and an excellent eater so we have been very blessed.  She basically just hangs out with me all day, loving life and milkin me for all I'm worth. Literally. Ha!

This year was our first time getting to celebrate Easter on our own. I have never done baskets because we were always on vacation so it was fun to be able to take on that role this year. Of course Sofia even got her own basket- not that she can use or eat half of it but it was all fun anyways. :)

Sofia in the same dress I wore for my first Easter 24 years ago.

Sofia's first Easter Basket- Don't worry, Greg ate allll the peeps.

I also was finally able to find a rug for Sofia's Nursery. I love it. And to top it off I found it at Ross for $11. Makes you love it even more, doesn't it? Actually, this reminds me that I never posted any pictures of the nursery all finished. I will have to take some with Sofia in it.

Sofia loves her pacifier and unfortunately the poor girl is always accidently popping it out of her mouth. During tummy time we practice holding it in her mouth.

And now finally some cute pictures of my baby girl.

She loves watching T.V.

Sofia- 6 Weeks old

Because Sofia is now officially 6 weeks old, I decided it was time for a blog update and it was all I could do to find some time to jot down a few thoughts.

Sofia is now 6 weeks old. Holy smokes. Where did the time go? I can’t believe how big she is getting.  I mean, I can, because she’s ALWAYS eating, but its crazy to see how fast time really does fly. You just can’t prepare yourself for it.  I always make sure I kiss her cheeks a couple times too many, smell her head every chance I get and you know I’m squeezing those chubby legs and bum cheeks. She is just too cute. Sometimes I wish she could just stay this size forever, and then I remember how hard it was to get her to sleep the night before and that thought goes out the window!

Sofia overall has been a very good baby. When we came home from the hospital we had two nights where she slept for abut 4 hour increments and then on the third night she slept for 6 ½ hours and we have been enjoying at least 6 straight hours of sleep ever since. We even got 8 hours and a couple 7 ½ hour stretches thrown in there. Although if I didn’t go to sleep until one or two in the morning, I would be pretty tired too.  Little stinker. I think that’s one of the only things we struggle with is getting her to go to bed for the night when WE want to go to bed.  I’m working on it.  For a while there I thought I might have a colicky baby on my hands but after a few drops of baby gas medicine she snaps out of it, but knowing her its probably only because she likes the taste of them.  So overall she’s doing pretty good.  As her pediatrician and the hospital nurses pointed out, she’s got some attitude and can be a D-I-V-A. If she doesn’t get her food right when she wants it or if that pacifier falls out of her mouth you better watch out, but as soon as she gets what she wants she is nice again. She’s also been fake crying and making loud noises to get our attention, which is just adorable and we end up just laughing at her. Poor thing.  Which reminds me, Sofia has started talking.  Nothing you can actually understand of course, but she likes to coo and respond to us if we catch her in the right mood.  Love.

Sofia now weighs 12 lbs 3 ounces and is officially in 3-month clothes. At 3 weeks I had to move her to 3-month pajama sleepers but she was still wearing her newborn outfits and maybe a 3-month outfit here and there.  She is now mostly wearing 3-month clothing all the time and has even become too tall for some of the 3-month jumpsuit outfits. She wore size 6 mo long john pajamas last night and they fit perfectly. Her legs are so long.  Right now she will eat about 6 ounces in one sitting if she is really hungry. Which is a lot of the time.

Sofia's Loves …
- Dinnertime. She’s a big girl. Need I say more? She’s also a really loud eater and makes little pig snarfing noises as she chugs.  Something I will miss for sure.
-Riding in her car seat. which is a relief for me.  She will usually sleep through grocery shopping and errand running which makes my life so much easier.
-Bath time. She just sits there enjoying the warm water.  She is just like her mama.
-Her swing and sometimes that is the only way we can get her to sleep. Don’t judge us! I usually try to relocate her to her own bed though.
-Sleeping on Mom and Dad’s bed when Dad leaves for school.
-Her gas drops. They must be tasty!
-Vibrating chair (also useful in helping her sleep)
-Her hair bows. YES GRANDPA DAVE, if you’re reading this, SHE LOVES HER HAIR BOWS!

As for me, life as mom has been going really well for the most part.  I don’t get as much sleep as I use to but I think I am getting more sleep than some moms out there so I am grateful for the sleep I do get.  My incision is healing nicely and today at the doctor’s office I got the okay to resume any activities I once did before I was pregnant, so Sofia and I went for a jog when we got home since the weather here has been so nice.

About two weeks ago Greg's mom, Marrlin came out and stayed with us for a week.  It was so fun to have her here and for her to meet Sofia. She was a lot of help and we were grateful to have a personal chef and full time baby sitter! Now if only her Grandpas would come and visit...

Sooo interesting story.  I weighed 167 before I delivered Sofia (44 lb weight gain) but because of my blood transfusion and being pumped with fluids it took about a week for the water weight to fall off.  After being discharged from the Hospital, I needed to go back into my doctors office the next day where I weighed 153 which meant I lost 14 lbs from Sofia's delivery.  The next day I weighed in at home and I weighed 144, meaning I lost another 9 lbs. Totaling 23 lbs lost so far and then two days later I kid you not I weighed in again because it was obvious that I was looking like my old self and I weighed 133. 11 lbs in two days! Which means I had 20 lbs of water weight hanging out in my fingers legs and feet. No wonder I was so swollen. Haha. After I weighed the first time after the 9 lbs drop my mom and I were shocked. How amazing. After the 11 lb drop we just laughed and laughed. How lucky for me.  Right now I am about 4 lbs from where I started.

I love having my little Sofie girl to keep me company while dad is gone. She keeps me entertained and busy. Thats for sure. I love dressing her up in all her little outfits and getting her ready for the day, although she gets tired of my tugging and pulling on her arms I am sure. She brings so much fun and excitement into our home and we love her so much. She’s a good girl.

So tired!

I loved these NB pajamas on her.  2 weeks old.
